Introduce a "Good First Issue" Jira Label

adityasharma
Hi team,

Good First Issue label can be used to identify any issue to be a good fit
for a new contributor. These issues can be a great way to get started with
a project. Then label is widely used by projects on GitHub[2] and quite
useful.

I propose to introduce a "Good First Issue" like a label to avail more
contributions from new people. I noticed there is already a label for
GoodForNewContributors[2] used by some projects. We can use the same or
have one created as "Good First Issue" as per the conventions all over the
world.

WDYAT?

That is really a good idea Aditya.  It will be really helpful for the
people like me who are starting to contribute.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Aditya,

I have no preference. GoodForNewContributors is more explicit than GoodFirstIssue to me, but if people as used to GoodFirstIssue, why not ?

Hello,

Good idea,

To add some more about GoodForNewContributors, it seems well used in
GitLab platform :

https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/issues?label_name%5B%5D=good+for+new+contributors

So sticking with it seems nice to me.

Thanks

Re: Introduce a "Good First Issue" Jira Label

Thanks everyone for your inputs!

I have added following instructions under "How to create a Jira issue" of
OFBiz Contributors Best Practices[1] document:

Add "GoodForNewContributors" label if you think that it can be a good fit
for a new contributor
