Hello Devs,
I need to confirm if the following scenario is valid or not: At the time of packing an order, an additional shipping charge can be added from the packing screen which is stored in the shipment entity. When package/s are completed, the shipment is marked as packed and an invoice is generated for the order in ready for posting status. Also, an invoice line item is created from the additional shipping charge added in the shipment. Now, since the invoice is in ready for posting status, it cannot be edited. But, the additional shipping charge on the shipment is still editable. Is this a valid scenario? My second concern is if someone has entered wrong shipping charge at the time of packing then how can it be corrected since the invoice gets generated as soon as shipment is packed. Thanks. Hi Mohammad,
One of the possible ways to support it could be by pushing the Shipment in some dangling state i.e., by putting them in 'CREATED' or 'PROCESSING' status when the packages are completed. And let shipper manually move it to the PACKED or COMPLETED status after making all the necessary (shipping) adjustments on the shipment and generate the invoice. This way invoice could come into existence only after all the needed adjustments are made and final valuation could be then captured from customer a/c. Alternatively, Invoice can as well be made editable until it gets finally posted provided there is enough support to re-capture/refund the additional amount on top of already captured amount from the customer upon shipment. If there are frequent instances that demands Shipment or any other kind of charges to be revised then, as a business rule invoices can be first pushed the to a different staging status like 'Created' or 'Under Processing' and have the authorized users from AR approve it prior to the final posting. But I am not too sure how easy or tricky it could be to do so without consent from the customer if additional amount needs to be charged.
