Hi,
More and more people ask questions about OFBiz in Jira. We would prefer that people ask them directly in our user ML. I guess it's not possible because Jira is shared by all Apache projects. But I ask anyway. Could we not remove the question type for issues of the OFBiz project ? Thanks Jacques Le Roux |
I guess you have reviewed my reply on thread "Questions in Jira" on the user
mailing list. Since last two days I have seen few questions asked on jira which may increase in future. So +1 for removing question type option from jira. -- Ashish On Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 7:03 PM, Jacques Le Roux < [hidden email]> wrote: > Hi, > > More and more people ask questions about OFBiz in Jira. Ashish,
Yes thanks for your comment. This mail is a copy of the one I sent to infra ML asking to remove this type, we will see, not much hope. Lets hope for the best Jacques ;o).
There can be few reason that they will not keep our wish is: -- Suppose I am asking some question from the community member, and I would like to explain my problem with the help of images. So if I have created issue of type "Question" then I can attach image there and we all know that the big attachments are not supported by the mailing list. -- Another reason that I can imagine is that some mail client don't have thread feature for reading conversations. So this can be another reason that they can refuse our request. Please update us as soon as you get some feedback from infra. Yes, sure.
In other cases, we may open a Task or Wish issue, etc. The goal is only to cut these questions from the root ;o) Jacques From: "Ashish Vijaywargiya" <[hidden email]> > Lets hope for the best Jacques ;o). > > There can be few reason that they will not keep our wish is: > > -- Suppose I am asking some question from the community member, and I would > like to explain my problem with the help of images. > So if I have created issue of type "Question" then I can attach image there > and we all know that the big attachments are not supported by the mailing > list. > > -- Another reason that I can imagine is that some mail client don't have > thread feature for reading conversations. Looks to me like the "Question" type is specific to OFBiz - for example Commons and Harmony do not have that type. Provided that the PMC agrees, it should be possible to remove the type without affecting other projects. There should be at least one person on the PMC with JIRA admin privilege who can probably do this. > Thanks > > Jacques Le Roux > |
Interesting.... and thanks for sharing the info.
I observed the same behavior after reading your comments. It looks like that the guys involved in those project might have also faced the same problem. So probably they might have removed issue type "question" from their project. I also noticed that in those projects the issue types are only 4 or 5 but in OFBiz we have more types. -- Ashish On Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 9:12 PM, sebb <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Looks to me like the "Question" type is specific to OFBiz - for > example Commons and Harmony do not have that type. > > Provided that the PMC agrees, it should be possible to remove the type > without affecting other projects. Does anyone know where this is setup in Jira? I tried looking around in the project administration UI but I don't see anything like this. The URL I'm at for the main project admin stuff is: https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/project/ViewProject.jspa?pid=12310500 I'd be happy to change this if I can figure out how... :( It may be that some permission that I don't have is required to do this and that's why I'm not seeing it, but I may simply be missing something too... -David On Jun 11, 2009, at 10:29 AM, Ashish Vijaywargiya wrote: > Interesting.... and thanks for sharing the info. > I observed the same behavior after reading your comments. > > It looks like that the guys involved in those project might have > also faced > the same problem. > So probably they might have removed issue type "question" from their > project. > > I also noticed that in those projects the issue types are only 4 or > 5 but in > OFBiz we have more types. > > -- > Ashish > > > On Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 9:12 PM, sebb <[hidden email]> wrote: > >> >> Looks to me like the "Question" type is specific to OFBiz - for >> example Commons and Harmony do not have that type. >> >> Provided that the PMC agrees, it should be possible to remove the >> type >> without affecting other projects. It's probably related to " Default Issue Type Screen Scheme" but I don't know how to access it either.

Hi,
the OFBiz JIRA project is set to use the *Issue Type Scheme: * Default Issue Type Scheme in order to eliminate the "question" issue type we should create an ofbiz specific Issue Type Scheme and make the ofbiz jira project use it. This task can be done as described here: http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Defining+%27Issue+Type%27+Field+Values but the global administratr permission is required. So this should be addressed by infra. -Bruno 2009/6/12 sebb <[hidden email]> > On 11/06/2009, Jacques Le Roux <[hidden email]> wrote: > > It's probably related to " Default Issue Type Screen Scheme" but I don't > > know how to access it either. > > Maybe Sebastian will help us ? > > Sorry, I can't help with fixing it. > > I suggest you file a JIRA issue asking for the change. > > > Jacques > > > > From: "David E Jones" <[hidden email]> > > > > > > > > Does anyone know where this is setup in Jira?
