New Format for Apachecon EU 2015 Event

Sharan-F
Hi Everyone

The format of Apachecon EU is changing. An announcement has just come out about the new format.

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/news-media/announcements/2015/05/linux-foundation-announces-new-conference-support-collaboration

The event will be divided into two areas

Apache Big Data http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apache-big-data-europe

and

Apachecon Core.  http://events.linuxfoundation.org/events/apachecon-core-europe

We will need to think about how and if OFBiz could fit into these areas.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Nicolas (and everyone)

Apachecon Core will be more like the traditional Apachecon event that we know but it will only last 2 days (Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd October).

OFBiz definitely fits into this and I have already told the organising committee that we would like to do a full track for Budapest at Apachecon Core. This means that we need to find 6 presentations to fill the track.

If people are happy then I think it would be good to continue using the format that we have been using so that we can cover a range of topics that appeal to our community.

I will send out an email to the mailing lists to ask for submissions as I think the deadline is 1st July.

Thanks
Sharan

Yes 1 july it's short ;) and 6 presentations itis too little for a big
community like us, even though it is better than nothing.

One important factor that will drive the selection process (performed by Linuxconf, the conference organizer) will be the potential to attrack attendees (i.e. sell tickets for ApacheCon).
We should definitely consider this aspect when we submit and wrap up a schedule.

Hi Jacopo

I agree that we need to make it attractive to both community and potential attendees although it's currently being marketed as 2 distinct events in the same week (but you can go to both by paying a supplement).

My understanding is that the Linux Foundation will definitely be selecting the presentations for the Apache Big Data event but that PMCs will have influence over the content in the ApacheCon Core event (see following quote).

Thanks

It is more about how we market our participation/presentation, than how the
organiser (LF) and/or the ASF market the event. We have an opportunity here
to introduce OFBiz to a variety of potential adopters in the European
market space.

Of course there a kind of chicken-and-egg situation here. People won't
attend (won't pay) if the OFBiz track is not appealing. And we can be
certain that if the submitted talks don't appeal to the organiser (both in
quantity and quality) the talks won't get accepted.

We must offer a value for money if we want to succeed at this.

Best regards,

Pierre Smits

One of the aspects we should not forget is that, though the track is only
six talks long, the event lasts for 2 days. So there is ample opportunity
to meet, talk about and promote both OFBiz and specific solutions and
approaches.
