Hello,
I have searched on
the Wiki and in the mailing list, but I haven't seen a conclusive answer. Has
anyone created a bulk product loader yet?
Thanks,
Geoff

Hi Geoff
I created a large spreadsheet that would output in an xml format that I could import... I eventually got it to work, but it was far more flimsy than I would have liked... but I'd be happy to share with you or publish on wiki if anyone is interested. I would love to take a look. Why don't you publish on the wiki? Could you post a url to it when you are done?

Hi
Ok... I've got a wiki page up... http://ofbizwiki.go-integral.com/Wiki.jsp? page=ExcelProductImportingSpreadsheet Hope that helps as a good start. I originally used it with OFBiz 3.0 or so, and have not kept up with any recent updates. Thanks On Mon, 2005-07-18 at 11:52 -0400, Gershaw, Geoffrey wrote: > I would love to take a look. Daniel, Geoffrey,
another good way to perform bulk data imports into OFBiz is using the OFBiz datafile tool + the entity xml import tool. The tool has been recently improved and now you can parse character separated text files (e.g. csv files) and transform them into entity xml files (that can be easily imported into OFBiz using the entity xml import tool). For example, if you need to import products from a csv file called "products.csv" (with '#' as the separator character): PRODUCT_A#Description of product A PRODUCT_B#Description of product B PRODUCT_C#Description of product C You can create the following datafile definition "products_def.xml": <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <data-files xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://www.ofbiz.org/dtds/datafiles.xsd"> <data-file name="products" separator-style="delimited" delimiter="#" type-code="text"> <record name="Product" limit="many"> <field name="productId" type="String"></field> <field name="description" type="String"></field> <field name="productTypeId" type="String" expression="true" default-value="FINISHED_GOOD"/> </record> </data-file> </data-files> Then go to Webtools-->Work with DataFiles and fill the form with the path to the data file (products.csv), the path to the datafile definition file (products_def.xml), and the path of the entity xml file you want to create (e.g. products_entity.xml). Submit the form and you'll get the following entity xml file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <entity-engine-xml> <Product productId="PRODUCT_A" productTypeId="FINISHED_GOOD" description="Description of product A"/> <Product productId="PRODUCT_B" productTypeId="FINISHED_GOOD" description="Description of product B"/> <Product productId="PRODUCT_C" productTypeId="FINISHED_GOOD" description="Description of product C"/> </entity-engine-xml> Finally you can easily import the file using the standard entity xml import (or import dir) tools. Hope this helps, Jacopo PS: by the way, have a look at the datafiles.xsd file definition: there are a lot of hidden features (you can define expression fields, skip fields, etc) Daniel Kunkel wrote: > Hi > > Ok...
