Thanks David, Ian,

I'll take out time and figure this thing out in details.

Jacques, regarding J2EE architecture I think the best of the books will be,
One recomended in Ofbiz documentation, J2EE Core Patterns.

Another one is available at The Serverside, J2EE Architects Handbook,

[OFBiz] Users - Eclipse on Linux nightmare (this is a tale...)

Jacques Le Roux
Administrator
Rohit,

I'm still trying to get at least 2 days per week to work on OFBiz (in my case more and more Neogia but it's almost idem).

For one year now I am not only learning OFBiz but Java (former MS Visual C++ man)  and Linux as well.
I begin to survive more easily with Linux (Ubuntu Hoary). Eclipse is so better on Linux that I will totally switch from Windows next days (thanks to Samba :).

Yesterday I had some trouble with Linux : as I don't want anybody to touch my computers when I am off (I work at home) I use a screensaver "passworded".
By curiosity, I have waited to see what happen when you let the screensaver time out coming. Never do that : after access is always *DENIED*. I don't understand why it's so, but I can tell you it's hard. I had an Eclipse session opened and had to switch off my PC. Bingo : I lost all my workspace. Fortunately there were only OFBiz and Neogia projects on this machine  (easy to recall from the net and I have a copy of my OFBiz changes on one Windows PC). I did to succed to restore anything (from rsync) as I don't understand exactly how things are managed by Eclipse (.metadata seems not enough).

So my advice : don't be too curious if you don't want to loose your sunday trying to search a way to restore an Eclipse workspace (this means also all your parameters, etc. Fortunatly not the plugins)

So it's OK now, but Linux (with some Eclipse help) too may sometimes really rot you life !

This being said, I'm sure now that Linux is by far better than Windows to develop.
My first experience in MS world was in 1985 with IBM PC AT2 : MS DOS 3.0 - lattice C, I worked also on IBM 3090 series in APL. Waooooo, it's good to speak of oneself , sorry for the bothering...

Good night all (at least me, I really need it ;)

Jacques

Re: [OFBiz] Users - Eclipse on Linux nightmare (this is a tale...)

Rohit Rai
It sounds cool, Jacques,

I work with Eclipse on windows cause got lot of other work on .net

Do have 2 linux systems, Fedora Core 3, but use them strictly for server prupose. Actually I began my IT career with Linux in 1998. and then went on to become a linux teacher. leave that . ..

Nice to hear from someone using Neogia. Actually I never got time to look at it. Only read about it at the site. can you write something about it here for all of us.

Well, at my place it is not night, It is 5:00 AM here in India, and I think I should also have a Sleep.

So good night to you all there!

Regards,
Rohit

Hello Jacques,

In your letter to Rohit you rote: "I'm sure now that Linux is by far better than Windows to develop". I, myself, have been toying with the idea of migrating to Linux. Could I ask you to elaborate on your assertion? Why Linux is better?

Thank you!

[OFBiz] Users - Linux Better

Jacques Le Roux
Administrator
Firas,

IMHO Linux is especially better because all tools are integrated and Eclipse runs much faster and is stable (but don't "play" like I did below ;o). OFBiz seems to run faster also.
