OFBiz hangs when completing a shipment

This is a really strange problem that has me stumped. It only occurs on
servers I have in a data center that are virtualized. The problem does
not occur locally on my SuSE 10.1 laptop, postgres 8.1.4.

OFBiz 4.0 (also tried using old version of trunk, doesn't seem to be
related to a version)
Debian 3.1 running in a vserver
Java 1.5_06
Postgres 8.0.2

When trying to Complete a shipment, either using the Quick option or
explicitly going to pack and then ship, the application just hangs.
eCommerce still responds, both secure and not, and I can get a login
screen for the backend apps. But when I try to login it hangs too.

I've tried increasing the db connection pool. Even tried deploying the
app on another server while leaving the unresponsive one running. I
could not login from the new deployment until I stopped the hung one on
the other machine. This suggests a database issue, but eCommerce still
works.

It consistently occurs when completing a shipment. I get no information
in the log. Below is the output from the start of the request until the
console goes dark.

I've been reading up until the last few weeks every mail on the
postgresql-general mailing list for nearly 6 months, and I can't recall anyone
who would recommend any 8.0 version. From reading peoples random ills I would
consider 8.0 versions Beta.

 From following many peoples success stories on the list, you should be fine
with the 8.1 version, but be aware that 8.2 version runs significantly faster,
as will 8.3 even more.

The developers seem to state that if you are on 8.1 then it will be worth the
pain (dump/restore) to move to 8.3 when it becomes available.

The only old version that seems to be worthwhile is a 7.4 branch that RedHat is
paying a developer to backport fixes on a full time basis.

So,
Can you not get a more modern version of postgreSQL?

You are correct, it was the database. I installed postgres 8.2.4 and
grabbed the latest stable jdbc driver. All is good now.

I have run into the same problem. I could fix it temporary (waiting for the
postgres database update to 8.2.4) changing the following file:

Nice catch Hans.

I got past the problem by upgrading Postgres. But it is very good to
know the source of the problem.
