I have a similar need. Or maybe what we need is to build out manufacturing more. I'm working on a process right now where labor is tracked per unit on an assembly line.

Re: Production runs to project mgr

In reply to this post by BJ Freeman
the project mgr was more for tracking live routing in an production run.
so the Gnatt chart can bus used for production effecency.

yours seems also important to keep track of money that is spent but can
not be put towards taxable cost till the part is sold.
that also effects accounting and if you want to explode the GL down to
the part level for reporting purposes.
it would sort of like a serialize part for tracking from mfr to
warehouse to possible another run back to warehouse, then shipped.
at the shipped stage against a SO the cost can be moved to the side of
the gl where is now a tax based deduction.

which reminds me to put a task in for cash and accural accounting.
oh fun.

Re: Production runs to project mgr

Adrian Crum-2
Actually, our need isn't tax-driven, it's economy-driven. We need to track the labor cost of every unit we sell to make sure we have the minimum staff required to meet production.

In reply to this post by BJ Freeman
yes then the import to project manager would be good and the estimated
to actual would give you cost. and gnatt give you bottle necks.

I would be happy to discuss how this could be part of an enhanced manufacturing application.

Re: Production runs to project mgr

Adrian Crum
Thanks Jacopo! I'm still trying to compare the manufacturing application
to our current need, so I might be speaking too soon. From what I
understand, a BOM can include labor costs. Can those costs be edited
after the production run to reflect the actual labor spent on each task?

Labor cost is computed from the time needed to complete the routing tasks associated to the product.

> Can those costs be edited after the production run to reflect the actual labor spent on each task?

There is a rough ui to enter actual times when the production run is running; these times are used to compute actual costs.

Re: Production runs to project mgr

BJ Freeman
In reply to this post by Adrian Crum
my thought on this is to use the project manager to work with this data.
my reasoning is that for management they want to see bottlenecks, costs.
then be able to assign other labor cost from Personnel to see how they
can influence the cost of the production run.

this goes along with the ERP philosophy of resource planning

Take  a look at using routing costs.
you can add a ComponetCostCalc to get individual costs for a batch.
