Yes, David, I am talking about a single location small business, like a
gift or card shop, candy store, etc.

I have not seen any response regarding the other areas of application:

Small farms
Volunteer Fire Departments
Small medical practice

Re: [OFBiz] Users - Existence of applications and/or demos

David E. Jones

Bob,

My guess is that for such companies their needs for customization and
the size of their budgets aren't a good fit with OFBiz as it stands
right now. Chances are you won't see OFBiz instance in these areas.

Think of it like someone giving you a Boeing 747 for free. It's a
nice big starting point, but unless you have some good money and
expertise or can make some relationships really quick you wouldn't
even be able to park it, or even pay for it to sit wherever it was...

OFBiz is not a really simple system, and certain areas are still
maturing and often require more effort to customize than will be the
base in the future. It's certainly not one of the QuickBooks of the
world, and even if it matches SAP requirement for requirement it will
hopefully never be that complex, but it is big and handles an
enormous scope of business needs, including many many things that
most small businesses have never faced or even heard of. As OFBiz
becomes more complete horizontally creating something for these
smaller businesses based on OFBiz should work great and will most
likely result in many profitable software companies, but they may
never be able to use it alone, especially not for a $1000 budget, or
even a $200 per month budget, unless a bunch of similar companies
"get together" (probably through a vendor) and share the costs of
customization and such.
