Hi all,
this is just to inform you that in the dev mailing list ([hidden email]) it is taking place a vote to issue the new release "Apache OFBiz 13.07.01" (the vote will last for 5 days). If you are interested in getting more involved with the project then testing the release and participating to the vote is a good way to start. Here are a few miscellaneous tasks that you could do to help: * download the candidate release files * check the signatures * verify the integrity of the zip file * build the system (with seed data only and/or with demo data) * verify if the automated tests pass * test the applications (at least some of the workflows you are more comfortable with) * check if the LICENSE and NOTICE files are complete When you finally cast your vote, it would be great to mention the tests that you did. For any doubts or questions please use this thread rather than the voting thread in the dev list. Thanks, Jacopo |
The candidate release files can be downloaded from here:

Hi Jacopo,
I've been doing random tests, the major issue that has noticed & reported is OFBIZ-5565 [https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-5565], in case if we don't have an immediate for the same, then might be good to mention this in an "open issues" section. I also think the data migration as indicated by Adam Heath [ http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/ofbiz-user/201403.mbox/%3C53193B72.2060902%40brainfood.com%3E] should be mentioned in "Revisions Requiring Data Migration (upgrade ofbiz)" [https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=7045166]. Adrian Crum had also shared a link [ http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/ofbiz-user/201311.mbox/%3C5290B01C.8090201@...%3E] for password migration. -- Vyom On 20 March 2014 14:39, Jacopo Cappellato <[hidden email] > wrote: > Hi all, > > this is just to inform you that in the dev mailing list ( > [hidden email]) it is taking place a vote to issue the new release > "Apache OFBiz 13.07.01" (the vote will last for 5 days). > If you are interested in getting more involved with the project then > testing the release and participating to the vote is a good way to start. > > Here are a few miscellaneous tasks that you could do to help: > * download the candidate release files > * check the signatures > * verify the integrity of the zip file > * build the system (with seed data only and/or with demo data) > * verify if the automated tests pass > * test the applications (at least some of the workflows you are more > comfortable with) > * check if the LICENSE and NOTICE files are complete > > When you finally cast your vote, it would be great to mention the tests > that you did. > For any doubts or questions please use this thread rather than the voting > thread in the dev list. > > Thanks, > > Jacopo > >

Jacopo,
Thank you for making the OFBiz 13.07.01 release available for download and testing. I have run the tests available in the release and only 1 failed. Test 'testCreateManyAndStoreOneAtATime' in entitytests raised a failure, but given the description of the failure it can be regarded as a minor issue. Also, testing for the multi-tenancy aspect (as per OFBIZ-4130<https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-4130>and OFBIZ-5319 <https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-5319>), the security threat - as described in those issues - still exists. It is a pity that resolving this didn't make it before the cutoff date of this release. But I trust you will mention the potential threat in the release notes after the conclusion of the vote and the subsequent release. As for not including good special purpose apps, I trust that mechanisms will be put in place (in short time) to ensure that users can still access and apply those applications in their 13.07 setup, without having to go through the developer way of working (checkout and code adjustment). Such mechanisms would show that OFBiz there is more to it than current release does. It is a pity that formal voting on each of the special purpose applications - to ensure due process - didn't occur in the dev ML, given the controversies as stated in mail thread http://ofbiz.135035.n4.nabble.com/Lose-Weight-Program-for-OFBiz-td4481845i40.html. It would also have ensured that creation and/or adjustment of policy and other document(s) could be planned and effect to reflect the new situation. We need to organize things around to have a least a hope something will happen... To begin, I suggest a Jira with requirements and ideas how to do. > > It is a pity that formal voting on each of the special purpose applications > - to ensure due process - didn't occur in the dev ML, given the > controversies as stated in mail thread > http://ofbiz.135035.n4.nabble.com/Lose-Weight-Program-for-OFBiz-td4481845i40.html. > It would also have ensured that creation and/or adjustment of policy and > other document(s) could be planned and effect to reflect the new situation. Everyone can begin a vote (even if only committers voices count). Of course it's too late now... Jacques,
It is generally better to resolve the existing bugs before the release is cut. Specifically those regarding security. Having a release with security issues is an easy target for competing products (marketing wise). And, throwing the special purpose apps out before means are available to put them back in is like throwing your shoes out before you have new ones. Jacques,
When you look at the list of the issues related to R13.07, you'll see that the majority of that list existed before the start of the vote procedure and patches are available. These issues (with patches) could have easily been tested, committed (when good) and resolved before the cut date. Thus giving (new) users the best experience possible with the new release.
