Christian Carlow commented on OFBIZ-5420:
-----------------------------------------
Thanks Pierre,
Your comments help tremendously. When I initially created this issue I didn't realize that the BOM Simulator should be used to accomplish the same results for which this issue was created to provide. Therefore I'll probably remove at least the BOM pricing feature added by the patches.
There IS still the dilemma of BOM items existing as virtual products however and the only way I can think to resolve such issues would be the incorporation of BOMs to the Order app as provided by the patches. Therefore I'm still not sure how much functionality should remain if any. These scenarios probably need to be discussed further to determine the relevance of the additional functionalities added by the patches.
Ean mentioned maybe using configurable products to handle BOM variant selections and pricings. If the BOM variant selection functionalities also provided by this patch are still relevant then I think they should ultimately be extended to configurable items as well.
Also, shouldn't the unit price of assembled product order items be set to the sum of their simulated BOM costs instead of the default price? Shouldn't the default price of assembled products only be used when they are added as quote items? Otherwise it seems the unit price of assembled order items would almost always be overridden by the user.

> I have a scenario where a company individually prices BOM elements of assembled products ordered. So if an item is manufactured from 2 component products, the company needs to be able to specify prices for both of the components to made up the total parent product cost.
