Hey Ean,
I think product configurations faces the same dilemma as the feature selection functionality in that BOMs are not incorporated into the Ordering App. So I can create configurations for the assembled items as well as for it's BOM assembly items, but when the assembled item is added to the cart, the BOM assembly item configuration choices are not required to be selected. Therefore if at least the BOM variant selection functionality is still deemed relevant I will extend the Order App BOM-incorporating logic to handle configurable BOM items as well.
