I'm pretty sure the lack of a user-selectable theme in eCommerce is intentional. The idea in eCommerce is to have the theme selected by the product store.

I demo this functionality from the store screen in catalog manager. It is especially compelling for companies with multiple channels (different channels can have different themes.) I agree that not being able to change it by the end user on the store front is intentional.

Yeah - it's intentional, but a really kinda interesting that we're talking about not putting this in.  We have so much functionality on the front end of the site that people have to turn off already - how is any of this different?  This makes it super easy for me to be able to show that the front end of our system, while generic and bland looking, can change without any code at all.

Let's rethink this as a group.  This is something that helps people better understand the capabilities of the system - the last thing we want to do is hide that at this point ....

I think a structured demo by the person presenting this feature and taking the client to the back end and changing the theme is able to provide the same thing.
for Demo this is fine.
the trunk is more than demo's though it is was is used in production.
so if there is a way to turn off this feature in production then OK.

Why turn it off in production? Current functionality only allows someone to change the ecommerce theme from the store screen in catalog manager. Only certain people should have access to this screen, presumably those that are authorized to manage this sort of thing.

I like it the way it is. Please do not change it.

maybe we can have it both ways.
there can be demo themes for ecommerce that can be selected from the productstore.
the Demo themes can have all sorts of bells and whistles, such as selecting other demo themes,  while leaving the production themes for Ecommerce in place.
