Good question...

If the one set in general.properties is invalid, the default JVM locale will be used. Right?  Either way, the user can't change it through the dropdown provided as the only choice will be the default locale.  The only potential benefit of keeping the dropdown when there is no way to change it is that the current Locale is being displayed.

Would simply printing the Locale instead of the dropdown/form be preferred?

I would like to see the dropdown list taken out of the header completely, as I suggested in OFBIZ-642. Coincidently, David Jones said the same thing during the developer's conference.

It would be preferable to have the current language selection displayed (as text), with a link to a popup page that let's you select another language.

I agree with Adrian and my personal wish is to see the information on the top right corner changed into a more formal ERP-style format, something like:

language

and suppress the "Welcome" label.

We could set there the language and in the future possibly other settings.
And then remove the drop down box from the header.

Actually, I was thinking more of the e-commerce. It's fine for me if there is no dropdown in the backoffice (even if this is questionnable when used as a demo, for instance on a demo server...)
