ofbiz with google checkout.

rohit
hi,

just a thought, if ofbiz can be made to work with the new google checkout, it can perhaps spurr greater adoption of ofbiz. Just a handful of e-commerce providers support of google checkout, thus ofbiz can still have a first movers advantage if it was made to support google checkout. maybe google will list list ofbiz on its support e-commerce providers page then. More information on google checkout can be found at the following links:

Re: ofbiz with google checkout.

BJ Freeman
my understanding of the goggle checkout is they provide a shopping cart
and money transfers, like say paypal.

So if someone already has a website, probably the host does not support
java, so ofbiz could run.

If someone has a host where ofbiz can run then it has its own Website,
built in.

Therefore all the goggle would be is another gateway option, along with
all the others that ofbiz has already.

also the Java code they use has to be ver 1.5 compatible, and ofbiz is
not there quite yet, even thought some have got to run on 1.5.

I work with Yahoo stores that offer paypal as an alternative to straight
CC processing.  Not that many customers like to use PayPal.

However you can work the war file you can integrate it into ofbiz.
Just look at the other payment processors for examples.

In reply to this post by BJ Freeman
yes BJ, google checkout will be just another payment option, if added to ofbiz. But i think it can be a graet value addition. Many business owners, including me, do not really like the idea of storing and processing the credit card myself, i rather prefer to use paypal or like. Its not just to save on costs but processing cards directly can be quite daunting for a relatively new business given the techincal and legal issues. Therefore having more options can make ofbiz more attractive to new and growing businesses.

Re: ofbiz with google checkout.

I have found the most daunting about ofbiz, is the hosting and
maintainence, like backup.

Most hosting for java applications, like ofbiz is about $400.00/month.
that is hard to compete with stores like yahoo for $45-100 month.
When I express to an business owner they can use their DSL, and the
chores involved, they usually respond in the negative.

However if you want to have this integrated. create a Jira for new
feature and put you links in there. if enough people vote for it, or
someone else get interested that will be the place to discuss it and
have some progress.

Re: ofbiz with google checkout.

Daniel Kunkel
In reply to this post by rohit
Hi

I took a glance at Google's Checkout and noted a few interesting bits.

Interfacing with Google Checkout is going to be far different than just
adding another payment processor, since it short circuit's the normal
checkout procedure.

We'll provide Google the products, prices, the shipment costs per state
or geo code, taxes per state or geo code, etc, and Google will return
the customers name, shipping address, and a 3 day payment guarantee.

Their api is simply a base64 version of an encrypted xml packet, so Java
1.5 probably isn't required if someone is willing to do some
programming.

Overall, I think the service will be very popular since customers will
prefer not having to give their credit cards out to every business they
order from online, and Google will provide a very good defense against
identity fraud, and a "score" that helps them avoid shady operators.

Thanks

Daniel

Hi,

i was just curious if anyone has picked up on integrating google checkout with ofbiz.

Is it also possible to create a pool in which those who are in immediate need of a particular feature can contribute monies to, and once the pool reaches the desired amount someone picks it up for development and then the source may be released for the community to use.

this was done with the Accounting software, not sure how successful it
was collecting the money.

There has been a Jira created for it, so vote on the Jira  it enough
votes are showing I am sure some one(s) will become interested.

Currently I have the code in my project folder, from goggle, but my time
frame is in 2007.

ofbiz with google checkout.

rohit
Hi,

i had hired somebody to integrate ofbiz with google checkout. However he left before finishing it. the module is 80% complete, for eg. shopping cart is properly sent to google checkout (ie. including adjustments for tax and promo items), shipping is dynamically calculated from ofbiz, party is automatically created and the order is logged for the party.

The remaining 20% part is refining the code and to solve a session problem that occurs when google posts the XML data to ofbiz.

The module is quite comprehensive, thus if someone willing to take it forward and complete i am willing to share the code here, such that it can form part of ofbiz.

I would like to add that the code that i have is quite different from the small integration that we have in ofbiz now.

My code tries to duplicate the same fuctions/process in posting shopping cart and logging order, as ofbiz would do in normail checkout. Thus the code relies heavily of ofbiz code itself.

Hi Rohit,

I would be interested in your Google Checkout integration and would be happy to complete it (if not already done). Please let me know if it's still available...

Thanks, Zoltan

Re: ofbiz with google checkout.

Zoltan Vereczi
I've checked the current implementation and please correct me if I'm wrong, but seems that it doesn't handle the adjustments and only able to transfer the ShoppingCart items. I see some shipping method and tax calculation handling possibilities, but the implementation is not complete.
There's no ofbiz Order processing involved, no callback notification handling at all.
I've checked http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBIZ/Google+Checkout+Integration also the mentioned patch at http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-71 . Did I miss something maybe and the improvements are already available somewhere?

Thanks for your help, Zoltan
