Dev - permissions for editing on docs.ofbiz.org

Si Chen-2
David,

Do I need some special permission to edit on docs.ofbiz.org?  I signed up for an account, but it said that "You are only permitted to add personal labels on this page."

Si

Si,

Yes, special permissions are needed for the end-user doc space and the admin space. Both of these are not intended to be editable by anyone, though the wiki space certainly is (though it requires and account to do so).

I've given you permissions for both spaces that need it. So, you should be good to go! Thanks for getting involved with this!

Vinay,

Could you write to me (perhaps personally rather than on the list if you'd prefer) about:

1. why you want edit permissions (I assume to the end-user docs)
2. what you plan to do with them
3. how much time you plan to spend on it on weekly basis and when over the next few months you'd be able to help out

It may appear from the mailing lists that I'm granting permissions pretty leniently, but so far the people involved are those who I've discussed this with a fair amount in the past, and who have contributed to other documentation efforts.

Thanks for your patience.

David,

Perhaps I don't need the permission. I had just thought that I would
contribute to it like I have been for the wiki.

The wiki area is open for anyone with an account to make changes in, just not the end-user doc space and the project admin space.

If there is enough interest in using the docs.ofbiz.org site for a wiki it might be nice to find a way to move all of the content over from the Integral wiki server. I looked into it briefly, but didn't see any up to date tools that would take care of this in anything approaching an easy way...

Sure this may be interesting. BTW some parts of the Integral wiki  are
deprecated and it may be a good opportunity to update or in some case remove
them. I hope to have some time for a part of that task soon. OK, as I have
promised
a lot and done few these latter times everybody is welcome to help...

A manual move from the old wiki would be one way to go, and the benefit of doing some wiki cleaning would be substantial.

I guess the best way to do this is using the "wild west" approach that makes a wiki a wiki and just put a little comment at the top of a page when you start working on it.

Manually moving pages from jspWiki to Confuence isn't too bad as most of the markup is the same, but there are a few variations (like with the headers in Confluence being more like html). It takes about 2 seconds to notice the differences, and there is good built in docs for confluence that you can refer to right from the UI.
