I’m new to OFBIZ and implementing it for a wholesale distributor. I’ve looked at the online documentation (kinda thin) and this user list, and I can’t seem to find a good definition of the different Product Types in the dropdown box. Primarily, I am looking for a product type that does NOT require inventory. This company takes some items on consignment and simply wants a way to track the sales but does not keep track of the inventory as it changes constantly. The discussion on Dropshipping (http://lists.ofbiz.org/mailman/htdig/users/2004-June/thread.html#4309) is also very applicable but I didn’t see an answer that used the current trunk of OFBIZ. In another system I have used this was called an Open PLU and simply ensured that the dollars were captured in the correct dept.
Thanks Mark (using svn 5664)

Mark,
Sounds like you need to use the "Require Inventory" option on the product page. Kind Regards -- Andrew Sykes <[hidden email]> Sykes Development Ltd _______________________________________________ Users mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.ofbiz.org/mailman/listinfo/users |

Drop shipping is *almost* implemented. You can create products which
automatically trigger requirements whenever they are ordered and then manually create purchase orders from those requirements. Drop shipping basically involves automating this last step. If you want to try to implement it for OFBiz I can help you through it. Si Mark Mantarro wrote: > I’m new to OFBIZ and implementing it for a wholesale distributor. Thanks, I'll wait for drop shipping to show up in the trunk. Right now I
just need to know what product type will not show a negative ATP when I sell it. I've tried the require inventory flag and using the digital good type but to no avail. Where is a good definition of each of the product types and the reason to use each?
